Confirmation Service
The Bishop conducted confirmation service in the Parish of Soura 54 on Sunday 18th March 2007. The Confirmation service went on well where 27 people were confirmed.
In attendance was Mama Barbara Lowes of Mary Sumner House in England. Gifts were received from the congregation.
Election for new bishops in ECS
The Bishop of the Diocese of Khartoum participated in the elections for the new bishops in 3 dioceses of Ezo, Kajo-Keji and Torit. It took take place in Juba between 23rd and 28th March 2007 and was followed by a House of Bishops Meeting.
The New Bishops:
Revd. John Zawo was elected for the Diocese of Ezo to replace Rt Revd. Benjamin Ruate.
For the Diocese of Kajo-Keji, Revd. Anthony Poggo was elected to replace Rt. Revd. Manase Benyi Daudi
For the Diocese of Torit, Revd. Bernard Oringa was elected to replace Rt. Revd. Wilson Arop.
All the retiring bishops retired from service on attaining the retirment age.
Consecration will take place on 22nd April 2007
Diocesan Synod Meeting
Diocesan Synod for the Diocese of Khartoum will meet in the first week of October 2007. With the increase of two more archdeaconries, it means the number of people attending the synod meeting will increase. It has to be noted the the former archdeaconry of East Nile has been divided into two and to be Khartoum North and Atbra archdeaconries repectively. Also Gezira Archdeaconry has been divided into two to be known as Medani and Damazin archdeaconries respectively.
New Church Building Dedicated
On Sunday 1st. April 2007, the new Church building was dedicated in Haj Yousif, Khartoum North archdeaconry.
It is to be noted that this is the first time for the ECS to have a permanent Church building in East Nile.
The church is called "Baraka Parish Church" which means Blessing!
The plot of land was privately acquired through purchase by the church and not allotted by the government.
The dedication of the church went ahead as planned.
Thousands of people gathered to praise God for the new building. The service that lasted for 6 hours was very much enjoyed by all!
The cost of the building is SD. 24,000,000
Most of this money was collected by the Parish Church and from well wishers of the Parish.
There is a need to complete the school within the compound and the fence.
Strategic Planning Workshop
ECS SUDRA has organized 10 days workshop on strategic planning for the Northern Cluster in the month of August in which 10 key leaders for each of the 4 Dioceses of Khartoum, Port Sudan, El Obeid and Kadugli attended. There were 40 people in total who attended the workshop. The 4 Bishops were in full attendance.
The leaders review their Vision and Mission Statements and planned for theprogrammes for the next 5 years. The workshop was sponsered by the Sister Diocese of Bradford in England. Our apprection goes to the Leadership of the Diocese of Bradford in the person of the Diocesan Bishop and the Northern Group Committee.
Confirmation Service:
The Bishop of the Diocese has carried out confirmation service at St. John's Parish church in the Khartoum North Archdeaconry on Sunday 19th August where 29 persons got confirmed. The service was well attended.
Heavy Rain in Khartoum:
Khartoum has received a very heavy rain for the last week where the a halt of trafict in the Capital, many people got to their homes on foot! Many houses got destroyed around Khartoum.
Prayer:
Pray for those affected by the rain not only in Khartoum, but in many other eareas in the Sudan.
